Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or autumn when the soil is workable. Avoid planting during periods of hard frost or into waterlogged soil.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, open position with well-drained soil. This collection is ideal for hot borders, prairie-style planting, gravel gardens and bold contemporary displays.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant so the top of each rootball sits level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space plants approximately 40–60 cm (16–24 inches) apart depending on variety.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with garden compost. In heavy soils, add grit or sharp sand to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil lightly moist while plants establish. Once established, most varieties are relatively drought tolerant, requiring only occasional watering during prolonged dry periods.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead regularly to encourage continued flowering throughout summer.
  • Cut back faded stems in autumn or early spring.
  • Leave ornamental foliage and seed heads standing through winter for added structure and interest if desired.

Top Tip:
Plant in generous drifts for maximum impact and combine with ornamental grasses or silver foliage to intensify the glowing hot colours.
