Allium Gladiator is a good solid hybrid of Allium aflatunense and Allium elatum with pinkish purple globe-like flowerheads on strong stems. Sweetly scented - an easy to grow 'punctuation' plant, increasing and supplied as big bulbs which always flower and last well.  Plant deeply to aid stability.

RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Allium Gladiator has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.

Planting Instructions

  • When to Plant: Autumn (September to November)
  • Where to Plant: Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. Alliums dislike wet feet, so avoid areas that remain waterlogged in winter.
  • Planting Depth & Spacing: Plant bulbs 15–20 cm deep and 20–30 cm apart, pointed end up.
  • Soil Preparation: Enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure before planting to encourage strong growth.
  • Watering: Water after planting to help establish roots, then only during prolonged dry periods.
  • Aftercare: Allow foliage to die back naturally to feed the bulb for next year’s display. Avoid cutting leaves too early.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring as growth begins.

Tip: Plant among lower-growing perennials to mask fading leaves and create a dramatic mid-to-late spring show of towering violet-purple globes.
