Bright, vibrant and wonderfully eye-catching, Allium ‘Miami’ produces rounded flower heads packed with rich rosy-purple star-shaped blooms that bring colour, texture and movement to the early summer garden.

Held on strong upright stems above neat foliage, the compact globe-shaped flowers create a softer, more relaxed appearance than some of the larger architectural alliums, making this variety especially versatile in mixed planting schemes. Its vivid colouring blends beautifully with cottage garden perennials, ornamental grasses and prairie-style planting.

Flowering in late spring to early summer, Allium ‘Miami’ is highly attractive to bees and pollinators, helping to support wildlife while adding bold seasonal colour to borders.

Ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens and naturalistic planting, this easy-to-grow ornamental allium works beautifully planted in drifts, where the flower heads appear to float gently amongst surrounding plants.

Reliable, elegant and easy to grow, Allium ‘Miami’ is perfect for gardeners looking for vibrant colour with a softer, naturalistic feel.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Allium bulbs in autumn (September–November) before the ground freezes. This allows roots to establish for strong flowering the following season.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. Alliums are ideal for borders, gravel gardens and naturalistic planting schemes. Avoid areas where soil remains wet over winter.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs about 10–12 cm (4–5 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with compost. In heavier soils, add grit or sharp sand to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water after planting. Once established, Alliums require very little additional watering unless conditions are particularly dry.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb.
  • Deadhead if desired, or leave seed heads for added interest.
  • Avoid excessive moisture in winter to prevent bulb rot.

Top Tip:
Plant in drifts amongst ornamental grasses or cottage garden perennials for a relaxed, natural-looking display full of colour and movement.
