One of the most distinctive and elegant ornamental alliums, Allium siculum ssp. bulgaricum produces graceful nodding bell-shaped flowers in unusual shades of soft green, cream and dusky burgundy-purple.
Held in loose umbels on tall arching stems, the flowers have a wonderfully natural and almost exotic appearance, bringing movement, texture and architectural interest to the late spring and early summer garden. As the blooms mature, they gently sway in the breeze, adding a relaxed and informal character to borders and naturalistic planting schemes.
Native to the Mediterranean and Balkan regions, this remarkable plant was formerly classified as Nectaroscordum, and it remains highly prized by gardeners for its unusual colouring and striking flower shape.
Perfect for cottage gardens, prairie planting, woodland edges and gravel gardens, it combines beautifully with ornamental grasses and herbaceous perennials. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and pollinators, while the decorative seed heads continue to provide interest long after flowering.
Easy to grow and wonderfully unique, Allium siculum ssp. bulgaricum is ideal for gardeners looking to add something truly special and architectural to sunny borders.
