A delightful mixture of vibrant jewel-like colours, Anemone coronaria 'De Caen Mix' produces an abundance of silky, daisy-like flowers in shades of red, pink, blue, purple and white, each centred around a distinctive dark eye.

Often referred to as the Florist's Anemone, the De Caen strain has been cherished by gardeners for generations for its brilliant colours, elegant form and exceptional performance as a cut flower. The flowers rise gracefully above finely divided fern-like foliage, creating a natural and airy effect in borders and containers.

Originally native to the Mediterranean region, these charming anemones have been cultivated since the 17th century and remain among the finest spring-flowering corms available. Their vivid colours bring welcome brightness to the garden after winter and provide valuable early nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.

Perfect for borders, containers, cutting gardens and naturalised planting schemes, they are especially effective when planted in generous drifts where the mix of colours creates a spectacular display.

A wonderful choice for gardeners seeking long-lasting spring colour and armfuls of cut flowers.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Anemone coronaria corms in autumn or spring. For best results, soak the corms in lukewarm water for several hours before planting to encourage quicker establishment.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Anemones are excellent for borders, containers, cutting gardens and naturalised planting schemes.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant corms approximately 5 cm (2 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space corms about 10 cm (4 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Incorporate compost or organic matter before planting. Improve heavy soils with grit to aid drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil lightly moist while growth is developing. Avoid waterlogged conditions.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the display.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
  • In colder areas, apply a winter mulch for additional protection.

Top Tip:
Plant in generous groups of 15–25 corms for a stunning carpet of colour and a plentiful supply of cut flowers throughout spring.
