A magnificent North American native, Camassia cusickii produces elegant spires of star-shaped, soft lavender-blue flowers that rise gracefully above clumps of strap-like green foliage in late spring and early summer.
Named after the American botanist William Cusick, this impressive species is one of the tallest and most striking Camassias. Each flower spike can carry dozens of blooms, opening gradually from the bottom upwards to provide a long-lasting display. The delicate blue flowers seem to shimmer in the sunlight, creating a naturalistic and airy effect in borders, meadows and damp grassland plantings.
Native to the moist mountain meadows of the north-western United States, Camassia cusickii thrives in fertile soils and is particularly valuable for bringing colour to areas that remain moist during spring. It combines beautifully with ornamental grasses, alliums, irises and other late spring perennials.
Highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, this long-lived bulb will slowly form impressive clumps over time, becoming more spectacular with each passing year.
A wonderful choice for naturalistic planting schemes, cottage gardens and wildlife-friendly borders.
When to Plant:
