Corydalis solida 'Beth Evans' enchants with soft pink, tubular blooms that rise like delicate spires above finely divided, fern-like foliage. Flowering in early spring, this charming perennial brings welcome colour to shady borders and woodland settings. Its compact habit and gentle beauty make it perfect for naturalising in drifts or tucking into crevices. A true herald of spring, 'Beth Evans' is both elegant and quietly exuberant a gem for any discerning gardener.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Corydalis solida bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, while the soil is still workable.

Where to Plant:
Choose a partially shaded spot — beneath deciduous trees, among shrubs, or in woodland borders. Corydalis prefer a cool, moist environment during their growing period.

Soil Requirements:
They thrive in humus-rich, well-drained soil. If your soil is heavy, improve drainage with grit or compost. Avoid waterlogged ground, as this may cause bulbs to rot.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs 5cm (2 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space them 5–10cm (2-4 inches) apart.
  • Plant with the pointed end facing upwards.

Aftercare:

  • Water well after planting.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering in early spring — this replenishes the bulb for next year.
  • These bulbs go dormant in summer, so avoid disturbing the area.

Tip: Corydalis are perfect for naturalising in light shade and will slowly form clumps over time. Once settled, they require very little maintenance.
