A true classic among the snow crocuses, Crocus chrysanthus 'Cream Beauty' is celebrated for its beautifully soft primrose-cream flowers, delicately flushed with warm honey-yellow tones at the base.

Introduced in the early 20th century, this award-winning variety remains one of the finest pale-coloured crocuses available. The elegant goblet-shaped blooms appear in late winter and early spring, often pushing through frosty ground to provide one of the first signs that warmer days are on the way.

Unlike the larger Dutch Crocuses, 'Cream Beauty' belongs to the early-flowering Snow Crocus group. Its compact habit and delicate colouring make it ideal for naturalising in lawns, woodland edges, rock gardens and containers. When planted in generous drifts, the soft cream flowers create a subtle and sophisticated display that blends beautifully with snowdrops and other early spring bulbs.

The flowers open wide in sunshine, revealing bright golden centres that are highly attractive to early bees and other pollinating insects.

Elegant, reliable and easy to grow, 'Cream Beauty' is a timeless favourite for bringing gentle colour to the very beginning of spring.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Crocus corms in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with well-drained soil. Crocuses are ideal for borders, rock gardens, containers and naturalising in lawns.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant corms approximately 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space corms about 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand to ensure good drainage.

Watering:
Water after planting to settle the soil. Once established, Crocus corms require very little additional watering.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
  • If planted in grass, avoid mowing until the leaves have yellowed.
  • Leave clumps undisturbed to allow natural multiplication.

Top Tip:
Plant alongside snowdrops and other early crocuses for a beautiful late winter display that signals the arrival of spring.
