Delivered to you from late September / Early October
With its starry, soft blue flowers and delicate honeyed fragrance, Ipheion ‘Wisley Blue’ is a charming and effortlessly elegant addition to the spring garden. Flowering from March into April, each slender stem carries blooms that glisten in the light, bringing a gentle wash of colour to borders, gravel gardens, and containers alike. Particularly effective when planted en masse, it creates a drift of cool serenity among early tulips and daffodils, or naturalises beautifully beneath deciduous shrubs. This resilient little bulb thrives in full sun or light shade, its grassy foliage releasing a mild garlic scent when brushed – a bonus for deterring pests. Named after the famed RHS Garden Wisley, where its reliable performance has long been admired, Wisley Blue deserves a place in every spring display. Once planted, it quietly returns year after year, multiplying gently and reminding us of the joy found in small, exquisite things.
When to Plant:
Plant bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground becomes too hard or wet.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained soil. Ipheion thrives in borders, under deciduous trees, or naturalised in grassy areas. Avoid areas prone to waterlogging.
How to Plant:
Aftercare:
Once planted, Ipheion requires little maintenance. Leave the foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb for the next season. Over time, the bulbs will clump and multiply, creating a more generous display each year.
Tip:
Ideal for pots, front-of-border planting, and even grassy areas where they can be left undisturbed to naturalise beautifully. Deer and rabbit resistant too!
A delightful, low-maintenance addition to any spring garden.
