Bearing elegant, lemon-yellow and white blooms atop sturdy stems. Native to Central Asia and steeped in horticultural history, it thrives in well-drained soil and sunny spots, perfect for borders, rock gardens, or pots. With its upright foliage and intricate flowers, Iris bucharica brings architectural charm and early-season joy to any garden. Easy to grow and reliably perennial, it's a must-have for lovers of unusual yet rewarding spring bulbs.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:
Plant bulbs in autumn, ideally from September to November, before the ground freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, well-drained position—this species thrives in soils that mimic its native Central Asian mountains, so gritty, free-draining soil is best. Avoid areas prone to winter waterlogging.

 Planting Depth & Spacing:

  • Depth: 10–15 cm (4–6 inches)
  • Spacing: 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart

Watering:
Water lightly after planting. Once established, it prefers dry conditions in summer and does not need regular watering. Avoid overwatering, especially in winter.

Planting Tip:

Iris bucharica’s fleshy roots prefer to be left undisturbed, so plant where they can remain for several years. They will multiply and naturalise well if happy.
