Delivered to you from late September / Early October
With its pale lilac petals brushed with violet veining and a striking yellow flare. Among the first to bloom in late winter, it brings a welcome touch of elegance to rockeries, pots, and well-drained borders. A cultivar of the wild iris native to the Caucasus, Painted Lady combines botanical charm with garden grace, ideal for naturalising and lifting the spirits at winter’s end.
When to Plant:
Plant in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground hardens with frost.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, well-drained spot—Iris reticulata bulbs dislike sitting in wet soil. They’re ideal for gravel gardens, rockeries, raised beds, or containers where drainage is excellent.
How to Plant:
Aftercare:
Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering, as this helps feed the bulb for next year’s display. Avoid overwatering and lift bulbs only if the area becomes too damp or overcrowded.
Top Tip:
For best results, plant in groups or natural drifts. ‘Painted Lady’ is especially beautiful when viewed up close—perfect for pots placed near doorways or paths.
Flowering Period:
February/March
