Murillo Mixture – Spring-Flowering Tulips of Classic Charm

Bring a burst of timeless elegance to your spring garden with the Murillo Mixture – a delightful blend of early double tulips that evoke the romance and charm of an old Dutch still life. These cherished cultivars are renowned for their peony-like blooms, packed with layers of soft, rounded petals in shades of creamy white, blush pink, rich raspberry, and gentle lemon. Each flower opens wide in the spring sunshine, creating a luminous display that’s both refined and exuberant.

Whether nestled among perennials or displayed en masse, the Murillo Mixture offers a classical palette and refined structure that speaks to the gardener’s eye for beauty and tradition. A must for those who value both form and softness in the spring garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant bulbs in autumn, between September and November, before the ground becomes too cold.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. These short-stemmed tulips are ideal for front-of-border planting, rockeries, or containers where their full blooms can be admired up close.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) apart.
  • Postion: Plant with the pointed end facing upwards.

Watering:
Water well after planting to help bulbs settle in. No need to water regularly over winter unless conditions are dry, especially in containers.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded blooms but allow the foliage to die back naturally—this helps the bulb store energy for next year.
  • In containers or nutrient-poor soil, feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring as leaves appear.
  • In heavy or water-retentive soil, consider lifting and storing bulbs once the foliage has withered.

Top Tip:
Plant in groups or drifts for a bold, textured display of double blooms. The Murillo Mixture also makes an excellent choice for early spring bouquets, adding colour and fullness indoors.
