One of the rarest and most exquisite spring bulbs, Muscari azureum (now often classified as Pseudomuscari azureum) produces sparkling, sky-blue flowers unlike any other grape hyacinth. Rather than the familiar urn-shaped blooms, each flower opens into a perfect star, creating delicate clusters of luminous blue that seem to float above the garden.
Native to the mountain meadows of Turkey, this charming little bulb has long been treasured by alpine gardeners and collectors for its distinctive beauty. Each flower head is composed of dozens of tiny, outward-facing, star-shaped florets in a clear azure-blue, giving the plant a light, airy appearance that sets it apart from all other Muscari. The flowers are lightly fragrant and provide an early source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.
Compact and exceptionally elegant, Muscari azureum is perfect for alpine gardens, rockeries, containers and the front of borders. It also naturalises gently in well-drained soil, gradually forming delightful colonies that return faithfully each spring. Its brilliant blue flowers combine beautifully with miniature Narcissus, Crocus, Chionodoxa and Iris reticulata, creating jewel-like displays at the very start of the gardening season.
A true collector's bulb that rewards gardeners with remarkable colour, delicate beauty and effortless charm.
