Distinctive, elegant and wonderfully easy to grow, Muscari latifolium, the Broad-leaved Grape Hyacinth, is one of the most unusual members of the Muscari family. Unlike its relatives, each bulb produces a single broad, tulip-like leaf and a striking two-tone flower spike, making it an eye-catching addition to the spring garden.
Native to the pine forests of south-western Turkey, this charming species produces dense spikes of rich indigo-blue fertile flowers topped by a crown of vivid azure-blue sterile blooms. The beautiful colour contrast creates a naturally two-toned effect that distinguishes Muscari latifolium from all other grape hyacinths. Its lightly fragrant flowers are highly attractive to bees and other early pollinating insects.
Flowering in mid-spring, this hardy bulb naturalises steadily in well-drained soil, forming attractive clumps over time without becoming invasive. It is perfect for woodland gardens, rockeries, containers and the front of borders, where its distinctive broad foliage and colourful flower spikes can be fully appreciated.
Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Muscari latifolium combines beautifully with species tulips, dwarf narcissus, Anemones and other spring bulbs, providing a rich ribbon of colour and texture throughout the season.
An exceptional species Muscari that offers unusual foliage, beautiful two-tone flowers and outstanding garden performance.
