Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and fragrant daffodils ever introduced, Narcissus poeticus var. recurvus, often known as the Pheasant's Eye Daffodil, is a timeless botanical species that has graced European gardens for centuries. Classified as a Species Narcissus (RHS Division 13), it is admired for its exquisite simplicity, intoxicating perfume and exceptional longevity.
Each elegant flower features pristine pure white petals surrounding a small, flattened golden-yellow eye edged with a brilliant ring of scarlet-red. The flowers are lightly reflexed, giving them a graceful, refined appearance that perfectly complements their sweet, rich fragrance. Blooming later than most daffodils, they provide valuable colour and scent when many other spring bulbs are beginning to fade.
Native to the mountain meadows of central and southern Europe, Narcissus poeticus var. recurvus thrives in borders, meadows, woodland edges and naturalistic plantings, where it gradually forms impressive colonies over time. Its long-lasting flowers are exceptional for cutting, filling the home with their unforgettable perfume.
Steeped in mythology, the species gave rise to the name Narcissus, after the beautiful youth of Greek legend who became entranced by his own reflection. Few flowers possess such history, elegance and enduring appeal.
A truly classic species daffodil that rewards every spring with beauty, fragrance and effortless charm.
