Elegant, statuesque and wonderfully long-flowering, Ornithogalum ponticum 'Sochi' is a magnificent Star of Bethlehem that produces tall, densely packed flower spikes of pristine white, star-shaped blooms in late spring and early summer. Its architectural habit and graceful appearance make it an outstanding choice for borders, cottage gardens and floral arrangements.
Each sturdy stem carries dozens of pure snow-white flowers, each delicately marked with a subtle green stripe on the reverse of the petals. The blooms open progressively from the base of the flower spike upwards, extending the flowering season and creating a spectacular display over several weeks. Their crisp white colouring brings freshness and elegance to mixed plantings, while also making them exceptional cut flowers with an impressively long vase life.
Flowering after most spring bulbs have finished, 'Sochi' provides an invaluable bridge between spring and summer, pairing beautifully with Alliums, Camassias, early Salvias and hardy Geraniums. The upright flower spikes add both height and structure, creating a striking focal point without overwhelming neighbouring plants.
Exceptionally hardy and easy to grow, Ornithogalum ponticum 'Sochi' thrives in well-drained soil and returns reliably each year, gradually forming impressive clumps that become more spectacular with age.
A superb late-spring flowering bulb that brings elegance, structure and lasting beauty to the garden.
