Often simply known as Puschkinia or the Striped Squill – is a delicate harbinger of spring that enchants with its quiet charm and understated beauty. Native to the mountains of the Middle East, this diminutive bulb produces clusters of pale, porcelain-blue flowers, each floret adorned with a fine central stripe that gives it a refined, almost porcelain-like quality. Flowering early in the season, it is ideal for naturalising in grass, edging pathways, or weaving through rockeries and borders where its soft hues can shine. Perfectly suited to cooler climates and happiest in well-drained soil, Puschkinia libanotica asks little but gives generously, bringing a sense of peace and gentle awakening to the garden each year.
When to Plant:
Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to November, before the ground freezes.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil. They are ideal for naturalising in grass, gravel gardens, or beneath shrubs and trees where they can multiply over time.
How to Plant:
Aftercare Tips:
Water in well after planting. Once established, Puschkinia needs very little care. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulbs for the following year. They are hardy, reliable, and deer-resistant — a perfect low-maintenance addition to your spring display.
TIP: For the most natural effect, scatter the bulbs by hand and plant where they fall.
