Elegant, refined and effortlessly beautiful, Triteleia 'Silver Queen' is one of the finest white-flowering brodiaeas, producing graceful umbels of pure white, star-shaped flowers delicately marked with a soft green stripe on the reverse of each petal. Held on slender, upright stems above neat, grass-like foliage, the blooms seem to float above surrounding plants, bringing light and elegance to the late spring and early summer garden.
A selected form of Triteleia hyacinthina, 'Silver Queen' is particularly admired for its larger, pristine white flowers and reliable garden performance. Flowering after many spring bulbs have faded, it extends the season beautifully, providing a seamless transition into summer.
The long-lasting flowers are highly attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinators, while their graceful stems make excellent cut flowers, lasting well in the vase. Ideal for cottage gardens, prairie-style planting, gravel gardens and patio containers, 'Silver Queen' naturalises gently over time, returning each year with increasing numbers of elegant blooms.
Beautiful planted alongside ornamental grasses, Camassias, Alliums and hardy Geraniums, this charming bulb adds movement, freshness and sophistication to any sunny border.
When to Plant:
Plant Triteleia bulbs in autumn (September–November) while the soil is still warm. They establish best before winter and will flower the following late spring to early summer.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with fertile, free-draining soil. Triteleia performs particularly well in borders, gravel gardens, rockeries, meadow-style planting and patio containers. Avoid areas that remain wet during winter.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting. During active growth keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid prolonged waterlogging. Once flowering has finished, allow the soil to become drier during summer dormancy.
