A striking and unusual Lily-Flowered Tulip, Tulipa 'Fly Away' is sure to become a talking point in the spring garden. Its elegantly pointed petals open and gently reflex to create the classic lily-flowered silhouette, while the blooms display a captivating blend of warm golden-yellow, rich apricot and fiery orange, often flushed with deeper bronze as they mature.

Flowering in late spring, 'Fly Away' brings movement and elegance to borders, where its slender stems sway gracefully in the breeze. The changing colours of the blooms create a dynamic display, making this variety particularly effective when planted in drifts or combined with deep purples, burgundies and fresh spring greens.

Like all Lily-Flowered Tulips, 'Fly Away' is prized for its refined shape and graceful habit. Its strong stems and long-lasting flowers also make it an excellent choice for cutting, bringing vibrant colour and elegance indoors.

Perfect for borders, containers and cutting gardens, this exceptional tulip adds warmth, sophistication and a touch of drama to any spring planting scheme.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Tulips are ideal for borders, containers and cutting gardens, where they provide spectacular spring colour.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with compost or organic matter. In heavy soils, add grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water well after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips usually require little additional watering except during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers to prevent seed production.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it.
  • Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage strong flowering.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Fly Away' alongside deep purple tulips or ornamental alliums to highlight its glowing orange and golden tones for a spectacular late spring display.
