A captivating blend of elegance and drama, Tulipa 'Nightwish' brings a touch of nocturnal magic to spring borders and containers. With petals that shimmer in deep velvet purple—sometimes so dark they verge on black—this tulip evokes the richness of a twilight sky. As the blooms unfurl, subtle undertones of maroon and plum emerge, adding depth and intrigue to each flower.

Standing tall on strong, graceful stems, Nightwish makes a stunning statement whether planted en masse for impact or woven through lighter-toned tulips for contrast. It’s equally at home in modern garden designs and romantic cottage schemes, where its sultry tones lend an air of sophistication.

Perfect for cutting, these blooms add drama to floral arrangements and pair exquisitely with whites, silvers, and blush pinks. A late-spring flowerer, Nightwish offers enduring beauty just as the tulip season reaches its crescendo—an unforgettable final note to your spring symphony.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in autumn, ideally from September to November, before the first hard frost.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained soil. Tulips dislike overly wet conditions, so avoid areas prone to waterlogging.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) apart.
  • Position: Plant with the pointed end facing upwards.

Aftercare:

Water well after planting. Once flowering is finished in spring, allow the foliage to die back naturally to feed the bulb for next year’s blooms. Lift and store only if the area becomes waterlogged or overcrowded.

Top Tip:
For the most striking displays, plant in groups of 10 or more. Tulipa 'Nightwish', with its deep, velvety purple blooms, looks particularly dramatic in swathes or bold container arrangements.
