Elegant, distinctive and full of character, Tulipa 'Doll's Minuet' is one of the finest Viridiflora Tulips, combining striking architectural form with exceptional late spring colour. Its slender, gracefully pointed petals are richly coloured in deep magenta, rosy-red and vibrant fuchsia, each beautifully accented by a bold emerald-green flame running through the centre of every petal.

Unlike traditional tulips, the flowers have a refined, almost lily-like appearance, with slightly reflexed, pointed petals that create a graceful, star-like silhouette. As the blooms mature, the vivid green midrib remains crisp and prominent, providing dramatic contrast against the rich pink-red petals and ensuring every flower is completely unique.

Flowering in May, 'Doll's Minuet' reaches 45–55cm in height and brings elegance and structure to borders, patio containers and cutting gardens. Its unusual colouring blends beautifully with deep purple tulips, white varieties and ornamental Alliums, while the green markings complement the fresh foliage of surrounding perennials.

Awarded the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM), Tulipa 'Doll's Minuet' is recognised for its outstanding garden performance, reliability and unique beauty. Its long-lasting blooms are also exceptional for cutting, adding a contemporary touch to floral arrangements.

A truly unforgettable tulip that combines elegance, architectural form and one of the most distinctive colour combinations in the spring garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Doll's Minuet' is ideal for borders, patio containers, cutting gardens and contemporary planting schemes.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can replenish the bulb for next year's display.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage strong stems and vibrant blooms.

Top Tip:
Pair 'Doll's Minuet' with dark tulips such as 'Queen of Night', white flowering tulips or ornamental Alliums to highlight its dramatic green flames. The unusual blooms also make outstanding long-lasting cut flowers.
