Agapanthus ‘Castle of Mey’ is a dependable, clump-forming African lily with rounded heads of lavender-blue, funnel-shaped flowers, each marked with a deeper blue midrib, held above tidy, strap-like green foliage. Flowering from mid-summer into early autumn, it’s perfect for adding bold, architectural shape to sunny borders and large patio pots. This is a deciduous, herbaceous variety and is considered hardy (RHS H5), making it a great choice for UK gardens in a warm, sheltered spot
When to Plant:
Plant bare roots in spring once the risk of hard frost has passed. In milder areas, planting in early autumn can also work, as long as the soil is still warm and well-drained.
Where to Plant:
Choose a warm, sunny, sheltered position with moist but well-drained soil. Agapanthus is ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, and large containers. Avoid winter waterlogging.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water well after planting. Keep soil evenly moist while establishing, then water only during prolonged dry spells. Agapanthus is drought resistant once established.
Aftercare Tips:
