Graceful and refined, Agapanthus ‘Silver Baby’ is a compact and elegant variety producing delicate clusters of soft silvery-white flowers, each bloom subtly washed with the faintest hint of pale blue. Held above neat clumps of slender green foliage, the rounded flower heads create a beautiful airy effect that brings a sense of calm sophistication to the summer garden.

Flowering through mid to late summer, this charming variety is perfect for patio containers, borders and courtyard gardens, where its tidy habit and luminous blooms can be admired up close. Despite its delicate appearance, ‘Silver Baby’ is a reliable and rewarding perennial that returns each year with increasing vigour.

Like many Agapanthus, it is highly attractive to bees and pollinating insects, making it a wonderful choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Its compact size also makes it ideal for smaller gardens or container displays, where it combines beautifully with ornamental grasses, lavender and other sun-loving perennials.

Elegant yet easy to grow, Agapanthus ‘Silver Baby’ provides weeks of graceful summer colour and adds a refined architectural presence to the garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Agapanthus in spring or early summer once the soil begins to warm. Avoid planting during periods of hard frost or into waterlogged soil.

Where to Plant:
Choose a warm, sunny and sheltered position with well-drained soil. Agapanthus thrives in full sun and is ideal for patio containers, courtyard gardens and summer borders. Containers are particularly useful in colder regions where plants can be protected in winter.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant with the crown just at soil level.
  • Spacing: Space plants about 30–40 cm (12–16 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with compost. In heavy soils, add grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water well after planting and keep the soil lightly moist while plants establish. Once established, Agapanthus is fairly drought tolerant, though container plants will require more regular watering.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season to encourage strong flowering.
  • Remove spent flower stems after blooming to keep plants tidy.
  • In colder areas, protect crowns with a mulch in winter or move container plants to a sheltered position.

Top Tip:
Agapanthus often flowers best when slightly root restricted, making it an excellent plant for containers where it will produce an abundance of blooms each summer.
