Rhodohypoxis baurii ‘The Bride’ is a little alpine classic, loved for its neat, grassy clumps and a wonderfully long display of pure white, starry flowers through summer. It’s perfect for brightening up pots, troughs, rockeries and gravel gardens, where you can enjoy the flowers up close. The clean white blooms look especially smart in modern planting, and they also mix beautifully with pink varieties for a soft, pastel “summer meadow” effect in miniature.
This is a tuberous/corm-forming perennial that dies back in winter and returns in spring. The key to success is full sun and sharp drainage, plus protection from winter wet—which is why it’s often happiest in a pot that can be moved somewhere more sheltered in colder months.
When to Plant:
Plant in spring once the risk of hard frost has passed, or in early autumn in milder areas. Avoid planting when the ground is frozen or waterlogged.
Where to Plant:
Choose a
sunny position with very well-drained, gritty soil. Rhodohypoxis is ideal for pots and troughs, rockeries and gravel gardens. It dislikes winter wet, so container growing is often the easiest option.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water well after planting. During growth and flowering, keep the compost
evenly moist (not soggy). Once it finishes flowering and starts to die back, reduce watering.
Aftercare Tips:

For a crisp, high-impact display, plant Rhodohypoxis baurii ‘The Bride’ in a pot and combine with pink varieties or silver-leaved alpines. Lift pots for
winter protection to keep tubers safe from cold, wet soil.
