Trollius ‘Alabaster’ is a beautifully soft, luminous globeflower with rounded, semi-double blooms in pale primrose to creamy-yellow tones, sometimes showing subtle greenish hints. The flowers have that distinctive “globe” shape and sit above deeply divided, rich green foliage, bringing a fresh, elegant look to moist borders, woodland edges, or near a pond where the soil stays reliably damp. It’s also a little less vigorous than many Trollius, forming a neat clump rather than racing away—ideal if you want something special but well-behaved.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or autumn, while the soil is moist and workable (avoid planting into frozen or waterlogged ground).

Where to Plant:
Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade with deep, moisture-retentive soil that does not dry out. Trollius is perfect for moist borders, woodland edges, and planting near ponds/streams.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant so the crown is level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space plants around 30–45 cm apart to allow clumps to develop.
  • Soil Prep: Work in plenty of well-rotted compost or leaf mould to hold moisture. On lighter soils, add organic matter yearly to prevent drying out.

Watering:
Water well after planting. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially in the first year and during dry spells—Trollius flowers best when it never dries out.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead spent blooms to extend the display.
  • Cut back hard after flowering to tidy the plant and encourage fresh growth.
  • In spring, apply a 5–7 cm mulch of compost or well-rotted manure to conserve moisture.
  • Divide clumps in late autumn or early spring if they become congested.

Top Tip:
For the happiest Trollius, think “cool roots”—mulch well and water in dry weather. ‘Alabaster’ looks lovely with Primulas, Hostas, Ferns and other moisture-loving perennials.
