South-east Asian members of the ginger family. Magnificent plants with tall, hollow stems and broad glossy leaves; but their best feature is the sweetly scented flower. Worth trying in mild areas out of doors, or else in a big pot brought into shelter in the winter. (Ours have survived past winters mulched out of doors here, except H. coronarium which is grown under cold glass) Roots, flowers and sap all scented of ginger.
