Delivered to you from late September / Early October
Dazzles with canary-yellow blooms etched with delicate green markings. This dwarf iris, native to the mountains of Turkey, bringing cheer when little else stirs. Best planted in full sun in well-drained soil, it thrives in rockeries, gravel gardens, or alpine troughs. It naturalises well, often splitting into bulbils after flowering. For best results, lift and replant every few years. A delightful herald of spring, perfect for adding sparkle to the late winter garden
When to Plant:
Plant in autumn, from September to November, before the first hard frost.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, well-drained spot. Ideal for gravel gardens, alpine beds, or containers. Avoid areas prone to waterlogging.
How to Plant:
Soil Requirements:
Prefers well-drained soil, ideally sandy or gritty. If planting in heavier soils, improve drainage with horticultural grit or sand.
Aftercare:
Once flowering has finished, allow the foliage to die back naturally. The leaves help to feed the bulb for next year’s flowers. Avoid excessive watering after flowering. Bulbs can sometimes split and take a year off from flowering—this is normal and they often return stronger.
Tip:
Perfect for planting in groups for a bold early-season display. Mix with snowdrops or early crocus for a natural look.
Flowering Period:
March/April
