Fresh, elegant and wonderfully free-flowering, Muscari aucheri 'White Magic' is a superb white grape hyacinth that produces dense spikes of pristine porcelain-white flowers, bringing brightness and refinement to the early spring garden.

Unlike the more familiar blue grape hyacinths, 'White Magic' offers a refreshing alternative with its pure white, urn-shaped blooms, tightly packed into neat flower spikes above slender green foliage. The flowers are lightly fragrant and provide an important early source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects emerging in spring.

Derived from the Turkish species Muscari aucheri, this compact, hardy bulb is exceptionally easy to grow and naturalises readily in well-drained soil. It looks magnificent planted in generous drifts beneath deciduous trees, edging pathways, weaving through borders or spilling from containers. Left undisturbed, the bulbs multiply steadily to create elegant carpets of white that return with increasing vigour each year.

Its crisp white flowers provide the perfect foil for blue Muscari such as 'Blue Magic', colourful crocuses, dwarf narcissus and early tulips, helping to unify spring planting schemes with a fresh, timeless elegance.

A beautiful and reliable spring bulb that brings purity, contrast and effortless charm to gardens of every size.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Muscari bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, while the soil is still warm enough for roots to establish before winter.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Muscari are ideal for borders, rockeries, containers, woodland edges, beneath deciduous trees and naturalising in lawns.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or organic matter to ensure good drainage before planting.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, Muscari require very little watering except during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulbs for next year.
  • Leave bulbs undisturbed where possible, as they naturalise and multiply readily.
  • Divide congested clumps every few years if flowering becomes reduced.

Top Tip:
Plant 'White Magic' alongside blue Muscari, pastel tulips or miniature daffodils to create elegant spring combinations that brighten borders and containers alike.
