Elegant, sparkling and wonderfully refined, Tulipa 'Honeymoon' is one of the most beautiful Fringed Tulips, producing pristine ivory-white blooms with delicately serrated, crystal-like petal edges that glisten in the spring sunshine. Its pure colouring and intricate texture make it one of the most sophisticated tulips for the late spring garden.

The large goblet-shaped flowers open gracefully on strong, upright stems, each petal finished with a finely cut fringe that resembles frost or delicate lace. As the blooms mature, subtle creamy tones develop towards the centre while the sparkling white fringes remain crisp, giving the flowers exceptional depth and elegance.

Flowering in late spring, 'Honeymoon' provides a luminous display that complements almost every planting scheme. Whether used in formal borders, patio containers or cutting gardens, its long-lasting blooms bring timeless beauty to the garden and make outstanding cut flowers for elegant floral arrangements.

Recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, 'Honeymoon' pairs beautifully with deep purple tulips, soft pink varieties, ornamental Alliums and blue Camassias, creating striking contrasts that showcase its pristine white blooms.

A graceful and luxurious tulip that adds sparkle, elegance and sophistication to every spring display.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulipa 'Honeymoon' bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, once the soil has cooled but before it freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Fringed Tulips perform beautifully in borders, patio containers, formal bedding and cutting gardens.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand to improve drainage, and incorporate compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During spring, rainfall is usually sufficient, although containers may require watering during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers to prevent seed production.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it so the bulb can store energy for the following year.
  • Avoid excessive watering once the bulbs become dormant in summer.

Top Tip:
Plant with deep burgundy tulips, blue Muscari or ornamental Alliums to create stunning contrasts that highlight the sparkling white fringes. The elegant blooms also make exceptional long-lasting cut flowers.
