Elegant, refined and beautifully distinctive, Tulipa 'Mistress' is a magnificent Triumph Tulip celebrated for its sophisticated blend of soft rose-pink petals delicately edged with creamy white. As the flowers mature, the pink colouring gently deepens while the crisp white margins remain luminous, creating a striking two-tone display that brings elegance and freshness to the spring garden.

The classic goblet-shaped blooms are carried on strong, weather-resistant stems, making 'Mistress' a dependable performer in borders, containers and formal bedding displays. Its graceful colouring lends itself to both contemporary and traditional planting schemes, blending effortlessly with deep purple, ivory, apricot and pastel tulips.

Flowering in mid-spring, 'Mistress' reaches around 45–50cm in height, making it ideal for adding structure and soft colour to borders and patio pots. Its long-lasting blooms are also highly valued by florists, producing elegant cut flowers that remain fresh in the vase for many days.

Graceful, reliable and timelessly beautiful, Tulipa 'Mistress' is an outstanding choice for anyone seeking a sophisticated spring display.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Mistress' is ideal for borders, patio containers, cutting gardens and formal bedding displays.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Mistress' with deep purple tulips such as 'Negrita' or soft apricot varieties like 'Menton' for an elegant, romantic spring display. Its beautifully marked blooms also make exceptional cut flowers.
