Celebrate the beauty of nature with our Tulipa Botanical Mix, a carefully selected blend of species tulips chosen for their graceful forms, vibrant colours and exceptional reliability. Unlike many modern hybrid tulips, these charming botanical varieties are descended from wild tulips found across the mountains and steppes of Central Asia, bringing a natural elegance to the spring garden.

Flowering from early to mid-spring, this delightful mixture offers a tapestry of colours including soft creams, sunny yellows, brilliant reds, delicate pinks and rich crimson shades. Many varieties open into beautiful star-shaped blooms in the sunshine before gently closing again in the evening, creating an ever-changing display.

Compact and easy to grow, Botanical Tulips are ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine beds, borders and containers. Their smaller stature makes them perfect for the front of borders, where they can be admired up close, while many varieties will naturalise and return year after year in well-drained soil.

Their early flowers provide an excellent source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects, making this collection as valuable for wildlife as it is beautiful in the garden.

Easy to grow and full of character, our Botanical Tulip Mix is perfect for gardeners looking for a natural, long-lasting spring display.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Botanical Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, while the soil remains workable and before it freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. Botanical tulips are ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine beds, containers and the front of sunny borders, where they can naturalise over time.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10 cm (4 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: If your soil is heavy, mix in horticultural grit to improve drainage. A little compost can be added if the soil is poor.

Watering:
Water well after planting to settle the soil. Once established, Botanical Tulips require very little watering except during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers if you do not wish plants to set seed.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it, as this helps feed the bulbs for next year's display.
  • Leave bulbs undisturbed wherever possible, as many species tulips naturalise well and improve with age.

Top Tip:
Plant in generous drifts of 20 or more bulbs to create a colourful, natural-looking display that returns year after year.
