Fresh, elegant and wonderfully distinctive, Tulipa 'Emilie' is a charming Multi-flowering (Multiflora) Tulip that produces several beautifully marked blooms from each bulb. Its crisp white petals are finely edged with rich purple, creating a striking two-tone effect that becomes even more pronounced as the flowers mature.

Unlike traditional tulips that produce a single flower per stem, 'Emilie' typically produces three to four blooms from each bulb, creating a fuller, bouquet-like display in the garden. The slender stems carry these elegant flowers beautifully, making this variety perfect for creating eye-catching spring containers and colourful border displays.

Flowering in mid to late spring, the clean white petals outlined in deepening purple give 'Emilie' a modern, sophisticated appearance that pairs effortlessly with purple, white and deep burgundy tulips. Its multiple blooms also make it an excellent choice for cut flowers, where each stem creates a ready-made bouquet.

Compact, reliable and full of character, Tulipa 'Emilie' is ideal for borders, patio pots and containers, providing exceptional value with multiple flowers from every bulb.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Emilie' is particularly well suited to containers, patio pots, borders and cutting gardens.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once they have finished blooming.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring for the strongest display.

Top Tip:
Because each bulb produces several flowers, plant 'Emilie' in patio pots or along the front of borders where its bouquet-like stems and crisp purple-edged blooms can be admired up close.
