Geranium ‘Beepub’ is a hardworking, bee-friendly hardy geranium that earns its space in the garden from the moment it gets going. Forming a neat, spreading mound of fresh green, deeply lobed foliage, it produces a long succession of charming blooms that are rich in nectar and irresistibly attractive to pollinators. It’s the sort of plant that quietly makes everything around it look better—threading between roses and shrubs, softening the front of borders, and knitting planting schemes together like a living mulch.

Hardy geraniums are famously reliable: they cope with UK winters, are generally pest and disease resistant, and once established they’ll return year after year with minimal fuss. ‘Beepub’ is also a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens and naturalistic planting, helping to support bees and beneficial insects right through the flowering season.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant bare roots in autumn through to early spring while dormant, avoiding periods when the ground is frozen or waterlogged.

Where to Plant:
Choose a spot in sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Hardy geraniums are very adaptable and are ideal for mixed borders, cottage gardens, wildlife-friendly planting and as ground cover under shrubs and roses.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant so the crown (growing point) sits just below or level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space 40–50 cm (16–20 inches) apart to allow plants to spread and knit together.
  • Soil Prep: Mix in garden compost or well-rotted manure to help retain moisture and give plants a strong start.

Watering:
Water well after planting. Keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes, then water during prolonged dry spells—especially in its first growing season.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead to encourage more flowers and keep the plant looking tidy.
  • After the main flush, you can shear back tired foliage to stimulate fresh leaves and often a second wave of blooms.
  • Divide clumps every 3–5 years in spring or autumn to maintain vigour.

Top Tip:
For a quick “freshen up”, give hardy geraniums a light cut back after flowering—they respond fast, re-leaf beautifully and can reward you with more flowers later on. They’re also excellent for weed suppression once established.
