Planting Instructions

The Solomon's Seal family are hardy perennials that grow nearly anywhere. Their preference is for heavier moisture retentive soils in some shade, but many of ours seem to be grown in full sun, where the plants tend to be shorter, but otherwise fine. Some, though not all, are vulnerable to the Solomon's Seal Saw Fly, whose larvae may devour the leaves in early summer. P. odoratum fl.pl. is a double form with "hose-in-hose" flowers in green and white, slightly smaller and less upright than the more familiar P. x hybridum. Less vulnerable to the Sawfly, its flowers are scented. Plant in semi-shade 4-5" (10-13cm) deep and 4" (10cm) apart, in rich garden soil, and water in well.
