Soft, elegant and wonderfully fragrant, Hyacinthus 'Pink Surprise' produces magnificent flower spikes in warm shell-pink, bringing delicate colour and exquisite perfume to the spring garden.

This beautiful Dutch Hyacinth is prized for its densely packed flower heads, each made up of dozens of waxy, star-shaped florets that release the rich, sweet fragrance for which hyacinths are famous. The blooms are a lovely clear pink with subtle salmon and blush tones that catch the spring sunshine, creating a fresh and uplifting display.

Perfect for borders, patio pots, containers and formal bedding schemes, 'Pink Surprise' is equally at home in the garden or grown indoors for winter and early spring flowering. Its compact habit and sturdy stems also make it an exceptional cut flower, filling the home with its unmistakable scent.

The gentle pink flowers blend beautifully with white hyacinths such as 'Carnegie', deep purple varieties like 'Woodstock', or blue favourites including 'Blue Jacket', allowing you to create stunning spring combinations full of colour and fragrance.

A delightful and reliable spring favourite that brings both beauty and perfume to every garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Hyacinth bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Hyacinths are ideal for borders, containers, patio pots and can also be grown indoors for winter flowering.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve the soil with compost or well-rotted organic matter. In heavy soils, add grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. During active growth, keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flower spikes once flowering has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally, as this feeds the bulb for the following year's flowers.
  • Apply a balanced fertiliser after flowering to encourage strong bulbs.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Pink Surprise' near entrances, patios or pathways where its wonderful perfume can be enjoyed every time you pass. It also combines beautifully with white, blue and purple hyacinths for a classic spring display.
