Bold, luxurious and richly perfumed, Hyacinthus 'Purple Voice' produces magnificent flower spikes of deep violet-purple blooms that make a dramatic statement in the spring garden.

This outstanding modern Dutch Hyacinth is admired for its densely packed flower heads, each composed of dozens of waxy, star-shaped florets that release the wonderfully sweet fragrance for which hyacinths have long been treasured. The rich purple flowers retain their vibrant colour throughout the flowering period, providing a striking contrast against the fresh green foliage.

Perfect for borders, containers, patio displays and formal spring bedding, 'Purple Voice' also excels as a cut flower, bringing both colour and its unmistakable perfume indoors. The deep violet blooms combine beautifully with white varieties such as 'Carnegie', soft pinks like 'Pink Surprise', or rich blues including 'Blue Jacket', allowing endless opportunities for elegant spring planting combinations.

Easy to grow and exceptionally reliable, this superb variety offers outstanding garden performance and remains a favourite wherever bold colour and fragrance are desired.

A magnificent hyacinth that delivers striking spring colour and unforgettable scent.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Hyacinth bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Hyacinths are excellent for borders, containers, patio pots and can also be grown indoors for winter flowering.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve the soil with compost or well-rotted organic matter. In heavy soils, add grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. During active growth, keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flower spikes once flowering has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally, as this feeds the bulb for the following year's flowers.
  • Apply a balanced fertiliser after flowering to encourage strong bulbs.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Purple Voice' alongside white and pale pink hyacinths to create a striking contrast that highlights its rich violet colouring and fills the garden with fragrance.
