Narcissus W.P. Milner

A true heirloom treasure, Narcissus 'W.P. Milner' is one of the most distinctive and elegant Trumpet Daffodils (RHS Division 1) ever introduced. Dating back to 1869, this historic variety remains highly prized for its unusual soft colouring, graceful form and remarkable reliability, making it a favourite among collectors and lovers of traditional spring gardens.

Each beautifully proportioned flower opens in soft primrose-yellow, with broad petals surrounding a long, elegantly flared trumpet of the same delicate shade. As the flowers mature, both the petals and trumpet gradually fade to a refined creamy ivory-white, creating a subtle, almost ethereal appearance that seems to glow in the spring sunshine.

Flowering in early to mid-spring, 'W.P. Milner' produces lightly fragrant blooms on strong, weather-resistant stems, making it ideal for borders, woodland gardens, containers and naturalising. Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Narcissus bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes and while the soil remains workable.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'W.P. Milner' is ideal for borders, woodland gardens, containers and naturalising in lawns or beneath deciduous trees.

How to Plant:

• Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
• Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
• Soil Prep: Improve poor soils with compost or well-rotted organic matter. In heavy clay soils, incorporate grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, water only during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

• Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering.
• Remove spent flower heads to prevent seed production.
• Feed with a balanced fertiliser after flowering to encourage strong bulbs and abundant blooms the following year.

Top Tip:
