A true marvel of the spring garden—an enchanting Darwin Hybrid tulip renowned for its extraordinary colour transformation. Opening in early to mid-spring with rich golden-yellow blooms, each flower gradually deepens to glowing amber and soft apricot-orange as the days unfold, casting a warm, sunset-like glow through borders and beds. This magical shift in tone gives the impression of a garden in motion, as if touched by the golden hour light itself.

Standing tall on strong, weather-resistant stems, ‘Daydream’ reaches heights of around 50cm, making it ideal for both naturalistic plantings and formal displays. It performs beautifully among perennials or en masse in sweeping drifts, and is equally striking when grown in large pots for terraces and patios. Its large, luminous blooms are long-lasting and gently fragrant, making them a favourite for cutting and bringing indoors.

Hardy and reliable, Tulipa ‘Daydream’ returns year after year when planted in well-drained soil and a sunny position. This is a tulip that truly lives up to its name—dreamy, radiant, and utterly unforgettable.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained soil. Tulips dislike soggy conditions, so avoid areas where water collects in winter.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: 15 cm (6 inches) deep
  • Spacing: 10–12 cm (4–5 inches) apart
  • Position: Pointed end facing upwards

Aftercare:

Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb for next year. Deadhead spent blooms to tidy the display but keep the leaves until they turn yellow.

Top Tip:
For a natural drift effect, gently scatter the bulbs over your planting area and plant them where they land. Combine with other mid to late-season tulips for a stunning, long-lasting display.
