Bursting with warmth and vibrant colour, Tulipa 'Orange Flavour' is a spectacular Double Late (Peony-flowered) Tulip whose sumptuous blooms resemble glowing peonies in full bloom. Layers of silky petals unfurl in rich shades of tangerine, apricot and glowing orange, often highlighted with soft golden-yellow undertones that intensify as the flowers mature.

The large, fully double blooms are packed with beautifully overlapping petals, creating a luxurious display that lasts for weeks in the late spring garden. As the flowers continue to open, their colours become richer and more complex, making every bloom a stunning focal point.

Flowering during May, 'Orange Flavour' reaches 40–50cm in height and is carried on sturdy stems, making it ideal for borders, patio containers and cutting gardens. Its vibrant colouring combines beautifully with deep purple tulips such as 'Queen of Night', rich burgundy varieties like 'Paul Scherer', or creamy white tulips for a striking contrast.

Its long-lasting, peony-like flowers are also exceptional as cut blooms, bringing warmth and elegance to spring floral arrangements.

Bold, luxurious and full of late-season colour, Tulipa 'Orange Flavour' is a superb choice for gardeners looking to create a vibrant and memorable spring display.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Orange Flavour' is perfect for borders, patio containers, cutting gardens and cottage-style planting schemes. A sheltered position is recommended, as the large double blooms can become heavy after rain.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can replenish their energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage sturdy stems and abundant blooms.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Orange Flavour' alongside deep purple tulips, ornamental Alliums or dark foliage plants to make its glowing orange blooms really stand out. Its large peony-like flowers are also outstanding for long-lasting spring bouquets.
