Achillea ‘Terracotta’ pours warm, sun-baked colour into summer borders. Broad, flat flower plates open rich burnt orange, then gently wash through ochre, honey and soft straw—creating a shimmering tapestry on one plant. Finely cut, aromatic foliage forms a sturdy, upright clump that thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, shrugging off heat and summer dry spells once established. A magnet for bees, hoverflies and butterflies, it’s perfect for wildlife-friendly, prairie or cottage schemes. Pair with grasses, salvias, rudbeckias and perovskias for months of glow. Excellent for cutting and superb dried; regular deadheading keeps blooms coming from June to September, or leave the seed heads for winter texture. Height 70–80cm, spread 40–50cm: a low-maintenance, high-impact perennial that ties a scheme together with effortless warmth.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or autumn, when the soil is moist but not frozen or waterlogged.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. Achillea thrives in poorer, drier conditions and is highly suitable for gravel gardens, wildlife-friendly planting, and drought-tolerant borders.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant with the crown at soil level.
  • Spacing: Leave 30–45 cm (12–18 inches) between plants to allow for airflow and spreading.
  • Soil Prep: Enrich poor soils slightly with compost, but avoid heavy fertilising as it can cause weak, floppy growth.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting. Once established, Achillea ‘Terracotta’ is drought tolerant and low maintenance.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage more blooms.
  • Cut back stems after flowering, or leave them standing for winter structure and wildlife interest.
  • Divide clumps every 2–3 years in spring or autumn to maintain vigour and prevent overcrowding.

Top Tip:
Achillea ‘Terracotta’ pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, Salvia, and late-flowering Alliums. It’s also excellent for cut flower arrangements and dries well for long-lasting bouquets.
