Bring warmth and festive elegance into your home with Hippeastrum 'Ambiance', a stunning variety producing large, pristine white flowers dramatically edged and brushed with rich scarlet-red. The bold colour contrast gives each bloom the appearance of being hand-painted, making this one of the most eye-catching Amaryllis varieties available.

A favourite during the Christmas season, 'Ambiance' combines classic festive colours with the graceful beauty of the Hippeastrum. Its magnificent trumpet-shaped flowers can reach up to 20cm (8 inches) across, creating an unforgettable display that lasts for several weeks.

Known commonly as the Amaryllis, Hippeastrums have delighted gardeners for centuries with their spectacular indoor displays. Each premium bulb will typically produce two strong flower stems, each carrying three to five impressive blooms, ensuring a succession of flowers throughout the winter months.

Whether displayed as a centrepiece, given as a thoughtful gift or grown to brighten a windowsill, Hippeastrum 'Ambiance' offers effortless elegance and exceptional performance. Its long-lasting flowers and striking festive colours make it one of the finest indoor flowering bulbs available.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Hippeastrum bulbs indoors from October through to February for spectacular flowers throughout winter and early spring. Most bulbs flower approximately 6–10 weeks after planting.

Where to Plant:
Choose a bright, warm location, such as a sunny windowsill or conservatory, where temperatures remain between 18–22°C. Hippeastrums should always be grown indoors and protected from frost.

How to Plant:

  • Pot Size: Select a pot only slightly larger than the bulb, leaving approximately 2–3 cm around the sides.
  • Depth: Plant with the top third of the bulb remaining above the compost surface.
  • Compost: Use a high-quality, free-draining compost and ensure the pot has drainage holes.

Watering:
Water lightly after planting, then wait until new shoots appear before watering again. Once growth begins, water regularly enough to keep the compost lightly moist, but never allow the bulb to sit in water.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Rotate the pot every few days to encourage straight flower stems.
  • Feed weekly with a balanced liquid fertiliser once leaves have developed.
  • Remove faded flowers after blooming but leave the foliage to grow naturally, allowing the bulb to replenish its energy.
  • Reduce watering in late summer and allow the bulb to rest for 8–10 weeks before restarting the growing cycle.

Top Tip:
'Ambiance' makes a spectacular festive display when planted in decorative pots and paired with evergreen foliage or simple white accessories that highlight its striking red and white blooms.
