A heritage Dutch variety cherished for its elegant primrose-yellow blooms and sweet spring fragrance. Dating back to the 1890s, this heirloom gem brings vintage charm to borders, containers, and indoor displays. Thrives in full sun or light shade, in well-drained soil. Ideal near paths or doorways where its perfume can be appreciated. ‘City of Haarlem’ adds both nostalgia and beauty to any garden, evoking the timeless grace of traditional Dutch bulb fields
When to Plant:
Plant bulbs in autumn, ideally from September to November, before the ground freezes.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil. Avoid areas prone to waterlogging, as bulbs may rot.
How to Plant:
Aftercare:
Water well after planting. During winter, a mulch of compost or leaves can help protect bulbs from severe frost. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally—this helps the bulb store energy for next year. Avoid cutting the leaves too soon.
Top Tip:
For the best display, plant in groups of 5 or more. For indoor blooms, pot in autumn and keep cool (around 9°C) for 10–12 weeks before bringing into a warmer room.
