Bold, luxurious and beautifully textured, Tulipa 'Crystal Beauty' is an outstanding Fringed Tulip that produces rich crimson-red flowers adorned with finely cut, crystal-like fringes that shimmer in the spring sunshine.

Winner of the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, this exceptional variety is prized for its vibrant colour, strong stems and elegant form. The large goblet-shaped blooms are a deep velvety red, while each petal is edged with a delicate frosted fringe that catches the light, adding remarkable texture and sparkle to every flower.

Flowering in mid to late spring, 'Crystal Beauty' stands proudly on sturdy stems that resist wind and rain, making it an excellent choice for borders, patio containers and cutting gardens. The flowers are exceptionally long-lasting both in the garden and as cut blooms, where their dramatic colouring and unique fringed petals create stunning floral arrangements.

Its rich crimson flowers pair beautifully with white tulips, golden Narcissi, blue Camassias and ornamental Alliums, creating striking late-spring combinations full of contrast and elegance.

A spectacular fringed tulip that combines rich colour, intricate detail and outstanding garden performance.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulipa 'Crystal Beauty' bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, once the soil has cooled but before it freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Fringed Tulips perform beautifully in borders, patio containers, formal bedding and cutting gardens.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand to improve drainage, and incorporate compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During spring, rainfall is usually sufficient, although containers may require watering during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers to prevent seed production.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it so the bulb can store energy for the following year.
  • Avoid excessive watering once the bulbs become dormant in summer.

Top Tip:
Plant alongside white tulips, golden Narcissi or blue Camassias to create dramatic colour contrasts that highlight the sparkling fringed edges of each bloom.
