Soft, elegant and wonderfully reliable, Tulipa 'Candy Prince' is one of the finest Single Early Tulips, producing beautifully rounded blooms in delicate shades of lilac-pink with subtle silvery and lavender undertones. Flowering early in the season, it brings a welcome splash of gentle colour just as the garden begins to awaken from winter.

Closely related to the ever-popular 'Purple Prince', 'Candy Prince' offers a softer, more romantic colour palette while retaining the same excellent garden performance. Its strong stems and sturdy flowers cope well with unpredictable spring weather, making it a dependable choice for borders, containers and formal planting schemes.

The soft pastel blooms combine effortlessly with white narcissi, blue muscari, creamy hyacinths and other early-flowering bulbs, creating fresh, elegant combinations. Their long-lasting flowers also make excellent cut blooms, bringing the beauty of spring indoors.

Perfect for borders, patio pots, window boxes and cutting gardens, Tulipa 'Candy Prince' is an easy-to-grow variety that delivers exceptional early-season colour and timeless charm.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Candy Prince' is ideal for borders, patio containers, window boxes and cutting gardens.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring for healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Candy Prince' alongside white Narcissus, blue Muscari or creamy Hyacinths for a fresh, elegant spring display. Its compact habit also makes it an excellent choice for patio containers.
