Elegant, artistic and wonderfully unusual, Tulipa 'Cabanna' is a breathtaking Parrot Tulip that delights with its ever-changing colours and extravagantly ruffled blooms. The large, feathered flowers open in soft shades of creamy white and blush pink, delicately washed with fresh apple-green on the outer petals. As the flowers mature, the pink colouring intensifies into vibrant fuchsia-rose, creating a spectacular display that evolves throughout the flowering season.

Each bloom is uniquely sculpted, with deeply fringed, twisted petals that unfurl dramatically in the sunshine. The combination of soft pastel tones, vivid colour changes and exotic petal form makes 'Cabanna' one of the most distinctive Parrot Tulips available.

Flowering in late spring, 'Cabanna' grows to around 45–55cm tall on sturdy stems, making it ideal for borders, patio containers and cutting gardens. Its romantic colouring combines beautifully with white tulips, deep purple varieties such as 'Queen of Night', or green-flowered Viridiflora tulips like 'Spring Green', creating elegant and sophisticated planting combinations.

Its extraordinary blooms are equally stunning in floral arrangements, where their unique texture and changing colours make every stem a focal point.

Perfect for gardeners who appreciate something a little different, Tulipa 'Cabanna' brings elegance, texture and a touch of theatrical flair to the late spring garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Cabanna' is perfect for borders, large patio containers, cutting gardens and statement planting schemes. A sheltered position is recommended to protect the large blooms from strong winds.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can replenish their energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage strong stems and spectacular blooms.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Cabanna' where its dramatic ruffled flowers can be admired up close. Pair with dark tulips such as 'Queen of Night' or elegant green-flowered varieties like 'Spring Green' to emphasise its beautiful colour transitions.
