Bright, elegant and wonderfully uplifting, Tulipa 'World Friendship' (also known as 'Friendship 1998') is a beautiful Triumph Tulip that brings a fresh glow to the mid-spring garden. Its perfectly formed, goblet-shaped blooms open in soft primrose-yellow, gradually maturing to a creamy ivory as they age, creating a gentle colour transformation that adds depth and elegance to any planting scheme.

As a member of the highly regarded Triumph Tulip group, 'World Friendship' combines graceful beauty with exceptional garden performance. Its strong, weather-resistant stems support the large flowers beautifully, making it a dependable choice for borders, patio containers and formal bedding displays.

Flowering from mid to late April into early May, this versatile variety reaches 40–55cm in height and pairs effortlessly with deep purple tulips such as 'Negrita', soft pink varieties like 'Dynasty', or blue Muscari for fresh and sophisticated spring combinations.

Its long-lasting blooms are also highly prized by florists, making 'World Friendship' an excellent cut flower that brings light and elegance indoors.

Reliable, refined and easy to grow, Tulipa 'World Friendship' is perfect for gardeners seeking soft spring colour with timeless appeal.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'World Friendship' is ideal for borders, patio containers, cutting gardens and formal bedding displays.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Top Tip:
Plant 'World Friendship' alongside deep purple tulips, blue Muscari or white Narcissus to create a fresh, luminous spring display. Its strong stems and long-lasting flowers also make exceptional cut flowers.
