A riot of fiery elegance, Tulipa Furiosa is a true showstopper in the spring garden. This fringed tulip lives up to its name with passionate intensity, its flame-like petals ablaze in crimson red, edged with golden yellow and serrated like flickering embers. Each bloom is a work of art—bold, dramatic, and unashamedly flamboyant.

Standing tall on strong stems, 'Furiosa' brings structure and movement to beds, borders, and spring containers. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and like all tulips, performs best when planted in the autumn and left undisturbed through the winter chill.

Ideal for gardeners looking to inject warmth and theatre into their displays, Tulipa Furiosa pairs beautifully with softer-toned tulips or stands proudly on its own. Whether in the garden or cut for an indoor arrangement, its vivid colours and exquisite fringed form never fail to spark admiration. A must-have for lovers of the extraordinary.

Plant Details

When to Plant:
Plant in autumn, from September to November, while the soil is still workable and before the first hard frost.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, sheltered location with free-draining soil. Parrot tulips do best in a warm, protected spot where wind won’t damage their showy blooms.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Allow 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) between bulbs.
  • Postion: Set bulbs with the pointed end facing upward.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to help bulbs establish. Natural rainfall usually suffices through winter—avoid planting in soggy ground.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead once blooms fade, but leave the foliage intact until it yellows and withers—this helps feed the bulb for next year.
  • In pots, feed with a balanced fertiliser when leaves emerge.
  • Lift and store bulbs after flowering if growing in heavy or wet soils, or replant fresh each autumn for best results.

Top Tip:

For a vivid late-spring display, plant in groups of 5 or more. Tulipa ‘Furiosa’ also makes a striking cut flower, so consider growing a few extra for the vase.
