A spring flowering French Snowflake – they were in the Leucojum family but have now been split off to become Acis. Hailing from North Africa and South Eastern France the species name refers to Nice where they grow in limestone crevices. Wiry leaved with glistening six petalled white flowers that open widely. On the edge of hardiness - best in an alpine bed where they can be drier in winter. Big seedheads containing lots of seed and therein lies potential for increase.

Planting Instructions

A spring flowering bulb that really does not want it too wet in the winter or in the summer. Derived from a population limited to the hills of southern France and Monaco you can see why. They might be best potted in a free draining compost and grown in an alpine house, or outside in a sunny well drained spot in sheltered gardens. Plant the bulbs 1-2” (3-5cm) deep, 3” (8cm) apart to get a clump in time. Water whilst in leaf and when that has disappeared allow them to have a dry dormancy.
