Remnants of our past listing years ago of the forms named after South African towns and cities and now gracing part of a polytunnel where they have been allowed to go a bit wild. Some are dark pink, some pale, sothey will be mixed. All are heavily scented. More flared and usually more colourful than A. purpurea major.
Amaryllis (and their hybrids) are winter growing, hence with exposed leaves in winter they need to be planted in a sheltered site where they are unlikely to be chilled below about -4°C e.g. a cool conservatory should be fine, with the pots moved outside in the early spring. A summer baking in dry conditions ‘ripens and primes’ the bulbs for flowering. In favoured spots it might be possible to grow them successfully outside.
