Bomarea salsilla

Bomarea salsilla is a native of the coastal mountains of central Chile. It is a climber that spirals its way upwards with thick wiry stems the thickness of knitting needles sparsely clothed with quite succulent leaves.It produces pink tubular flowers in the summer on ends of looping stems sometimes looking down, or up but never the same way. They seem happy with either full sun or part shade but you will need to provide support for them to climb through. Supplied as tubers.

RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Bomarea salsilla has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant. 

Planting Instructions

Bomarea salsilla should be planted in a well drained soil in full sun. It should be protected in very cold gardens but here they have been unaffected by the recent cold winters, buried deep in the ground. They need clambering support and should be watered freely when in growth.
